This year, there will also be special focus on celebrating the life and legacy of First Step Recovery Co-Founder Mike Kaspari, who unexpectedly passed away in April (Read more about Mike's life and legacy below).
Funds raised through the event will benefit the Family Program at First Step Recovery, a program of The Village Family Service Center.

Schedule: Festivities begin at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14. There will be announcements and celebrations at 5:15p.m. The kids walk/run kicks things off at 5:30, and the 3K and 5K events will begin after that. Immediately following the 3K and 5K, join us for a celebration of recovery, a tribute to Mike Kaspari (read more about Mike below) and his incredible vision, as well as grilling good food and some fellowship!

Fundraising: Once you've registered (scroll to top of page to register), you'll get your personal page where you can raise funds to help support First Step Recovery and have a chance to win awesome prizes (details below)! You also have the option to put the "fun" in fundraising by starting a team!

Why: Your fundraising efforts, donations, and/or entry fee will help us continue to support those who have a loved one suffering from addiction free of charge through First Step's Family Program. You can run/walk to celebrate your recovery, that of a loved one, in memory of someone special to you, or to support those who fight the battle every day!  Join together with your family and friends to celebrate recovery.

About Mike Kaspari: First Step Recovery co-founder Mike Kaspari made a huge impact on so many lives. We’ve heard story after story and been touched by the outpouring of love and support since he passed away, following a fall at his home in April. And, in honor of his memory and celebration of his legacy, we have renamed our Sept. 14 run/walk “The Michael Kaspari Memorial Run for Recovery.” Mike cared about people. He worked as an ICU and Emergency Room nurse and at Drake Counseling. In 2000, Mike founded First Step Recovery with Susan Stenehjem-Brown. His real passion for healing came out of his own struggles with addiction. One of his catchphrases was, “We got ya.” That meant the staff at First Step would walk that journey to recovery with the patient and family every step of the way. The impact of Mike’s work was huge. As one person wrote, “Mike and Sue saved me years ago and I would not have the life and relationships I have today if I had not met them.” You can read more about Mike’s life here.
